Refund Policy
Last updated: 29 August 2026
Reading Rocks aims to provide clear, accurately described and usable digital educational products.
Because most Reading Rocks products are supplied electronically as downloadable files, refunds and returns work differently from those for physical goods.
This Refund Policy should be read together with the Reading Rocks Terms & Conditions and does not limit any consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded under South African law.
1. Digital products
Unless the product page specifically states otherwise, Reading Rocks products sold through readingrocks.co.za are digital products.
No physical item is shipped or couriered.
Once payment has been successfully confirmed, customers may receive access to the purchased product through:
- a download link;
- an order-confirmation email;
- the My Account → Downloads area, where applicable.
2. Change-of-mind purchases
Where permitted by applicable law, Reading Rocks does not ordinarily provide a refund merely because a customer:
- changed their mind after purchasing or accessing a digital product;
- no longer needs the product;
- purchased material for the wrong learner;
- purchased the wrong grade;
- purchased the wrong subject;
- purchased the wrong term;
- purchased the wrong language;
- later found similar material elsewhere;
- did not read the product description before placing the order.
Customers should therefore check the product title and description carefully before completing payment.
Nothing in this section removes any cancellation or refund right that applies to the transaction under South African law.
3. Before purchasing
Before placing an order, please confirm:
- the correct grade;
- the correct subject;
- the correct term or period;
- the correct language;
- the type of product being purchased;
- that the device being used can open PDF files.
Reading Rocks makes reasonable efforts to identify these details clearly on each product page.
4. Duplicate purchases or duplicate charges
Please contact Reading Rocks if:
- you were charged twice for the same order; or
- you accidentally completed the identical purchase more than once.
Where our records confirm an unintended duplicate payment or duplicate transaction, Reading Rocks will investigate and, where appropriate, refund the duplicate amount.
Contact:
Please include the relevant order number or numbers.
5. Payment received but product not supplied
If Reading Rocks receives successful payment but the purchased digital product cannot be supplied, please contact:
We will first attempt to restore or provide access to the product.
If Reading Rocks is unable to supply the product and a refund is required by law or appropriate in the circumstances, the payment will be refunded.
6. Incorrect file supplied
If the file supplied does not correspond with the product that was actually ordered, Reading Rocks will:
- verify the order;
- supply the correct product where possible; and
- provide an appropriate remedy if the correct product cannot be supplied.
A customer will not be required to purchase the correct file again where the incorrect file was supplied because of an error by Reading Rocks.
7. Defective or unusable files
Please contact us if a purchased file:
- is corrupted;
- cannot be opened despite using suitable PDF software;
- is incomplete because of a technical file error;
- contains missing pages caused by a defective supplied file;
- cannot be downloaded because of a Reading Rocks technical problem.
Reading Rocks will first attempt to correct the problem by:
- providing a replacement file;
- restoring download access;
- correcting the defective file; or
- otherwise providing the product purchased.
Where an appropriate remedy cannot be provided, a refund or other remedy will be considered in accordance with applicable law.
8. Product materially different from its description
If a product materially differs from the description displayed at the time of purchase, please contact Reading Rocks with:
- your order number;
- the product name;
- a short explanation of the problem.
Reading Rocks will investigate the matter and provide an appropriate remedy where required.
A minor design difference, formatting update, corrected edition or change that does not materially alter the purchased educational content will not automatically constitute a materially different product.
9. Educational content concerns
Reading Rocks takes reasonable care in compiling educational material.
If you identify what you believe to be a factual or substantive error, please contact:
and identify:
- the product;
- page number where possible;
- the information concerned.
Reading Rocks will investigate the issue.
Where a correctable error is found, an updated or corrected file may be supplied.
The existence of a minor typographical or formatting error does not automatically entitle a customer to a full refund where the product remains reasonably usable for its intended purpose.
This does not affect rights available under applicable consumer law.
10. Download or email problems
Failure to receive the automated email does not necessarily mean the order failed.
Before contacting Reading Rocks, please:
- check your Spam or Junk folder;
- confirm that the email address entered during checkout was correct;
- check My Account → Downloads, where applicable.
If payment is confirmed and access is still unavailable, contact:
We will assist with restoring lawful access.
11. Incorrect email address entered by the customer
If a customer enters an incorrect email address during checkout, Reading Rocks will make reasonable efforts to assist after the order has been verified.
An incorrect customer-supplied email address does not by itself make the purchased product defective or automatically create a right to a refund.
12. Unauthorised sharing
A refund will not be provided for the purpose of enabling a customer to retain or distribute a Reading Rocks product without payment.
If Reading Rocks has reasonable evidence that a downloadable product has been deliberately:
- resold;
- distributed;
- shared publicly;
- uploaded for unauthorised access; or
- otherwise used contrary to the applicable licence,
Reading Rocks may take reasonable steps to protect its intellectual property, subject to applicable law.
13. Statutory consumer rights
Nothing in this Refund Policy is intended to exclude, waive or reduce any consumer right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Depending on the nature and circumstances of a transaction, rights may arise under South African legislation including the:
- Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008; and
- Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA).
Where a statutory cooling-off, cancellation, refund, quality or other consumer right applies to a particular transaction, Reading Rocks will deal with the request in accordance with the applicable law.
14. Cooling-off rights
South African electronic-commerce legislation provides cooling-off rights for certain electronic transactions and also specifies transactions to which those rights do not apply.
Because the applicability of those provisions can depend on the type of product and the circumstances of the transaction, Reading Rocks will assess a valid cancellation request in accordance with the law applicable to that transaction.
Nothing in this policy should be interpreted as requiring a customer to waive a statutory cooling-off right before making a purchase.
15. How to request assistance or a refund
Send requests to:
Please include:
- your full name;
- your order number;
- the email address used for the purchase;
- the name of the product;
- a clear explanation of the problem.
Where relevant, screenshots or other information may be requested to help identify a technical problem.
Please do not send bank-card numbers, online-banking passwords, PINs or OTPs to Reading Rocks.
16. Investigation of requests
Reading Rocks may verify:
- the order;
- payment status;
- product supplied;
- download status;
- relevant technical records;
- correspondence relating to the transaction.
This information is used only to investigate and resolve the request appropriately.
17. Approved refunds
Where a refund is approved, Reading Rocks will process it using an appropriate method, ordinarily through or in relation to the original payment channel where reasonably possible.
The time taken for the funds to reflect after processing may depend on the payment provider and financial institution.
Where legislation prescribes a specific refund period, that legal period will apply.
18. Payfast transactions
Payments made through Payfast are also subject to the payment-processing procedures applicable to Payfast transactions.
Reading Rocks may need to verify the payment in WooCommerce and/or Payfast before processing a refund.
A Payfast payment reference does not replace the Reading Rocks order number, so customers should retain both where available.
19. Chargebacks
Customers are encouraged to contact Reading Rocks first where there is a genuine order or download problem so that we have an opportunity to investigate and resolve it.
Nothing in this clause prevents a customer from exercising a legitimate right through their payment provider or under applicable law.
Fraudulent or knowingly false chargeback claims may be contested using the relevant transaction and download records.
